Definition of e-Learning

e-Learning is defined as: …'the use of technologies in learning opportunities'.


Stages of E-learning

  • Informative Stage

This stage covers the provision of information (administrative), programme specification, module handbooks, timetables, reading lists, exam questions and links to external resources.
  • Integrative Stage

This stage covers more dynamic interaction and communication replacing some face-to-face activity, including manipulation of online datasets, group discussion, video lectures, e-tutoring, online exercises, formative and summative assessment.
  • Transformatory Stage

This stage provides an online learning community, using resources and technologies in innovative and collaborative ways, such as multimedia simulations, online seminars with invited experts.
